Thank you so much for your interest in DIY Costa Rica, and congrats on your upcoming first trip to CR! I’m confident it won’t be your last. 😉

Fortunately, wifi is widely available throughout Costa Rica. It is patchy in remote areas, however, and may not be available in extremely remote areas (typically areas you cannot reach by car). In general, though, popular destinations including San Jose (and cities/towns within the Central Valley), La Fortuna/Arenal, Monteverde/Santa Elena, and frequently visited beach towns along the Pacific and Caribbean coasts have good wifi. In addition, most hotels offer wifi to their guests; some offer wide coverage that reaches hotel rooms and others provide wifi only in their reception/lobby area. Wifi is also available countrywide (save for remote areas) outside of hotels, so if you plan to bring an unlocked cell phone with you to Costa Rica and you want wifi access all day long (i.e., off hotel grounds), you can purchase a SIM card and data through local service providers Kolbi (https://www.kolbi.cr/wps/portal/#/) or Movistar (https://movistar.cr/).
