Visiting CR in late November. Would like to visit/stay with local family. Something off the tourist train. Travel route is San Jose, La Fortuna, Monteverde, Samara and back SJ. Will not have a car. Any help appreciated. Nancy
,NikkiKeymasterHi Nancy!
Thanks so much for your interest in DIY Costa Rica!
I apologize for taking a few days to get back to you. We just released this new Questions and Answers Forum this week and it has taken us a bit of time to adjust to it. 😉
Your question is a great one! I have a quick question for you in return…
Are you looking for a homestay that’s associated with a volunteer stint? Or a homestay without an option to volunteer? I ask only because most of the Costa Rica homestay opportunities that we’re familiar with are tied to a particular volunteer experience. For instance, if you’re interested in wildlife, the rescue center Proyecto Asis (about a half-hour drive, bus, or taxi ride from La Fortuna) offers local homestays to center volunteers. Here’s a link to more information if this is in line with what you’re looking for: https://www.institutoasis.com/homestay-costa-rica/
