Is it feasible to drive from Rio Celeste to Liberia Airport and fly out the same day at 3:30pm? We have a rental car. What is the recommended route and time?
,NikkiKeymasterHey CR2023@dj2028!
Quick question, just to clarify:
Do you mean is it feasible to drive from the Bijagua area (home to the Tenorio Volcano National Park, where Rio Celeste is found) to the Liberia Airport in time for a 3:30pm flight? Or are you wanting to know whether there is enough time to tour the park/Rio Celeste and then drive from there to the Liberia Airport in time to catch a 3:30pm flight?
If you won’t be touring Rio Celeste that day, there should be enough time for you to make the drive. It’s about a 2-hour drive from Bijagua to the LIR Airport (you may need to factor in additional time to get to Bijagua from wherever you plan to stay in that region), so as long as you leave Bijagua by 10:00am, that should get you to the airport at least 3 hours prior to your flight departure time. The route is to take Highway 6 south out of Bijagua to Highway 1, then take Highway 1 northwest to the city of Liberia. There you’ll turn left onto Highway 21, which provides a direct route to the LIR Airport.
If you want to tour Rio Celeste in the morning on the same day, that’s doable but will be very tight. You’ll need to enter the Tenorio Volcano National Park when it opens at 8:00am, then take no longer than 2 hours to tour the park, so you can head out on your journey toward the airport around 10:00am.
