Hello! First off, thank you for your site and wealth of Costa Rica information!

I have looked at many itineraries and am having trouble with a fourth or fifth destination. We land late on June 25 and fly out on July 10. I assume we should spend our first night in San Jose as we land late at night. We also fly out of San Jose.

Our family of four will be making our first trip to Costa Rica in July. We love nature, hiking, and less crowded places. Our two teens, 17 and 14, of course will love the beach, zip lining, yummy food, and animals. My husband and I would love coffee or chocolate tours, nature, speding quality time together with our family and a little peace and quiet. We will have a car. We do tend to like smaller towns, relaxed environments. We don’t mind driving, but we don’t want to spend all our time in the car, either.

    La Fortuna and Arenal
    Monteverde
    Manuel Antonio

I appreciate any suggestions you may have! Thank you!

    Hi Shannatoth!

How exciting! What an amazing vacation you’re creating for your children. 🙂

A lot of what you’re after (beach time, zip-lining, wildlife-viewing, coffee and chocolate tours, and nature) is already covered by visiting La Fortuna, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio, which is great. It sounds like you would benefit from spending time at a more low-key destination at the end of your trip, especially since the first three destinations you intend to visit are popular and tend to be busy. What if, after visiting Manuel Antonio, you head further down the coast to the Osa Peninsula? I’d recommend checking out the Drake Bay area. It will provide you with the solitude you want, in addition to additional nature exploration, beach time, and wildlife-viewing opportunities.
